Tennis Footwork for Playing Winning Tennis
Tennis footwork is the key to success in the game of tennis. Anyone can hit the tennis ball when it comes right to him or her. If the ball is in the hitting zone, it’s easier to make a successful shot. When one has to move into position in order to hit the ball, then it gets more difficult.
This is why balance with footwork recovery is critical. The player must learn how to explode to the ball and get in position early in order to be “ahead of” the opponent. There are specific drills we use that train the body to move in this way. This doesn’t come naturally for most. The player must recover after the shot in order to stay in the point. You must assume the ball is coming back. If you hit a winner—great...but this won’t happen on each shot. Recovery takes discipline when you’re running full speed to hit the ball. Avoid extra steps because they will slow down your recovery and keep you out of position for the next shot. Read the information on the

return footwork recovery.
These three aspects of movement are critical for smooth court coverage. I hope you can apply the instruction to your own tennis game.
